P0500 — Vehicle Speed Sensor A Malfunction

P0500 means the ECM isn't getting a valid vehicle speed signal. Cruise control, ABS behaviour and transmission shift quality can all be affected.

1. Failed vehicle speed sensor — Usually mounted on the transmission housing. ($120–$400)
2. Damaged sensor wiring — Exposed to road debris under the vehicle. ($80–$250)
3. Wheel speed sensor or ABS module fault — Many vehicles derive VSS from ABS data — check for C-codes too. ($150–$700)
4. Damaged tone ring — Rust or impact damage on the reluctor. ($200–$600)
